Cordelia Tam - Paper Rock

Cordelia Tam’s, Paper Rock (2019) continues her inquiry into traditional scholar’s rocks and taoist practices. Paper rocks are rested within a large dish of ink into which the ink is naturally absorbed. This slow process coveys flow, emptiness, and “complementary oppositions” inherent in the work.

Tam’s work was brought to my attention in response to my piece Body Mould. Specifically the composition of the work and the function of capillary action, tapping into the natural behaviors of ink and paper in such an arrangement. The simplicity of Tam’s materials and their rich heritage has inspired to to refine the composition of materials and forms in my own practise.

Tam’s work can be found on her website here.
