Hemitub is an exploration of accesibility in the home. The domestic environment has become one built of products intended to serve the needs of the inhabitant and ultimately generate profits for the designing company. Unfortunately, much of the population has been neglected in this design process and the home, a space which one would think should be accessible, is often inaccessible. Pain-points were identified around the home and firsthand interviews conducted with individuals who struggle with accessibility in the home. A gap was identified in the accessibility of plastic storage containers often employed in kitchen spaces and the lack of usability these present for individuals with limited hand mobility. The resulting design re-thought the form and function of these containers to better suit the needs of those with limited mobility whilst preserving the features which have made them so popular, these being their durability, simplicity, and versatility in use.
