Lily Clark - Dew Point III

Dew Point III is a sculptural water fountain constructed of superhydrophobic stoneware ceramic and set in motion with the aid of a pump. Clark’s work intends to explore the “archetypal, spherical shape of water.” This piece is a continuation of Clark’s Dew Point series, and was designed for Marta Los Angeles’ Objects for a Heavenly Cave Exhibition.

Clarke’s work re-entered my field of vision after the staging of my recent piece Body Mould. This piece incorporates the relationship between water and other more traditionally sculptural materials in a fashion that is perhaps adjacent to the work of Clark. Clark manages to refine her Dew Point III to a point that draws one into the elemental simplicity of water as a substance. Her incorporation of water into her sculptures, one could say as the subject of focus of her work, brings my attention back to earlier references I found in the writing of Gaston Bachelard, particularly his Water and Dreams.

Dew Point III can be seen in motion here.

Clark’s work can be found on her website here.
